Reverse Osmosis Under-Sink Installation Requirements
Last updated: August 3, 2026
These requirements apply to AQUALIVIA under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) systems sold by AQUALIVIA LLC ("AQUALIVIA," "we," "us"). They are the published installation standard for these systems and form part of the AQUALIVIA Limited Warranty and Terms & Conditions. By purchasing an under-sink RO system, you acknowledge that you have read and accept these requirements and that you accept the risk of any damage caused by an installation that does not conform to them.
Professional installation is required
AQUALIVIA under-sink RO systems are specified for professional installation. Our published instructions require installation by a licensed plumber or a certified water treatment professional. We do not currently publish an installation video for these systems; the written installation instructions supplied with your system are the sole published standard. Self-installation does not by itself void the warranty, but this warranty does not cover any defect, damage, or failure caused by an installation that deviates from our published instructions, including an installation performed by someone other than a qualified professional.
Leak Protection Is Mandatory
Because an under-sink system sits inside a cabinet above a finished floor, a leak can cause water and property damage before it is noticed. We strongly require a leak sensor with automatic shutoff in the cabinet under every RO installation, and we recommend a drain pan or catch tray. Water pressure must be regulated and within the system's rated range. Inspect connections regularly and shut off the supply at the first sign of a leak or abnormal condition.
Feed Water and Operating Conditions
- Operate the system only within its stated feed pressure and temperature range. Add a booster pump where feed pressure is below the rated minimum, and a pressure regulator where it exceeds the rated maximum.
- Connect only to a cold potable water supply. Do not connect to a hot water line.
- Maintain the carbon pre-filter on schedule. Membrane damage from chlorine breakthrough caused by a spent or unmaintained carbon pre-filter is not covered.
- Do not use the system on water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection, unless the specific product is expressly certified for that use.
Connections and Drain
- Do not use a piercing or self-tapping saddle valve. Use only the supply and drain connections specified in the instructions.
- Install the drain saddle correctly and provide an air gap where code requires one.
- Push-fit and compression connections must be fully seated to the depth mark. Connections not fully seated are a common leak source and are not a defect.
- Follow all applicable plumbing and building codes and permit requirements. Where our instructions and applicable code conflict, code governs.
Existing Plumbing Is Your Responsibility
AQUALIVIA does not inspect, repair, or warrant your existing plumbing, including angle stops, supply lines, drain lines, P-traps, disposals, faucet bores, and cabinet structure. Failure of existing plumbing or of the cabinet, and any resulting damage, is not covered by the Limited Warranty.
What Is Not Covered
Consistent with the Limited Warranty, the following are not covered on under-sink RO systems: use of a piercing or self-tapping saddle valve; connection to a hot water line; an improperly placed drain saddle or the absence of a required air gap; operation outside the stated feed pressure or temperature range; membrane damage from chlorine breakthrough due to a spent or unmaintained carbon pre-filter; failure of existing plumbing or cabinet structure; connections not fully seated to the depth mark; and any damage a non-conforming installation actually causes. Property, water, and mold damage are excluded as set out in the Limited Warranty and Terms & Conditions; use your homeowner's or renter's insurance as the primary source of recovery for any such loss.
Documentation Protects You
Keep the installer's name and company, the installation invoice and date, and clear photographs of the completed installation, including the leak sensor and shutoff. If you ever file a claim, this documentation makes it straightforward to substantiate.
