Description
The Invisible Problem
Sediment damage happens slowly, then suddenly. Sand, silt, and suspended particles enter water from aging pipes, well aquifers, or construction disturbances. At first, the effects seem minor: slight cloudiness, occasional debris at the faucet, or minor texture during dishwashing. But sediment acts like fine abrasive sandpaper inside your plumbing. Over time, it wears down valve seats, clogs aerators, scratches fixture surfaces, and settles heavily at the bottom of water heaters. This buildup reduces heating efficiency, restricts flow, and damages pressure regulators before most homeowners even notice.
The real cost of ignoring sediment is not just what you see in your glass. It is what accumulates invisibly behind walls and inside appliances. Water heaters fail prematurely. Dishwashers and washing machines develop valve problems. Expensive filtration and softening systems downstream become fouled or lose capacity because sediment was never stopped at the source. To better understand how sediment interacts with other common water issues, read about sediment and sand water filtration solutions.
The Certified Solution
The AQUAREX™ 50-Micron Sediment Filter is engineered as essential first-stage protection for any whole-house water treatment system. This replacement cartridge uses precision-graded polypropylene media manufactured to NSF/ANSI Standard 42, NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 61, and NSF/ANSI Standard 372 requirements. The material is also produced under FDA CFR 21 approval, ensuring safe contact with potable water. Made in the USA, this 10-inch cartridge fits standard filter housings and serves as the critical barrier that extends the lifespan of every downstream component.
Unlike generic sediment filters that collapse under household flow rates or clog prematurely, the AQUAREX™ cartridge is built with high dirt-holding capacity. The 50-micron filtration level captures visible sand, silt, rust particles, and suspended solids without restricting water pressure. This prevents sediment from reaching carbon filters, softening resins, UV chambers, and specialty media, each of which can be damaged or rendered ineffective by unfiltered particulate matter. By removing sediment at the point of entry, this filter protects household plumbing, maintains consistent water pressure, and improves overall water clarity across every fixture.
The precision construction allows efficient flow while maintaining structural integrity under continuous use. This cartridge does not shed fibers or introduce contaminants back into the water stream. Regular replacement at appropriate intervals ensures ongoing protection and optimal system performance. For well water applications where sediment concentrations are typically higher, proper pre-filtration is the foundation of any reliable treatment strategy. To explore how whole-house filtration integrates with sediment control, review whole house water filtration systems for homes.
Pure Water Living
When sediment is removed before it enters your home's distribution system, the difference becomes immediately noticeable. Water flows freely through every faucet and showerhead without restriction. Dishwashers and washing machines operate smoothly without valve interference. Water heaters maintain efficiency because sediment no longer settles and insulates heating elements. Fixtures stay cleaner because abrasive particles are no longer present to scratch surfaces or leave residue.
The confidence that comes from protecting your investment in water treatment equipment is equally important. Softening resins last longer when they are not fouled by sediment. Carbon filters reach their rated capacity without premature clogging. UV lamps deliver full disinfection performance because water clarity is maintained. Reverse osmosis membranes achieve expected rejection rates because they are not compromised by particulate matter.
This is what proper sediment filtration delivers: consistent protection, extended equipment life, and cleaner water at every outlet. The AQUAREX™ 50-Micron Replacement Filter provides essential first-stage protection that forms the foundation of any reliable whole-house water treatment system. Pure Water. Pure Trust.
Completing Your Water Strategy
While the AQUAREX™ Sediment Filter removes visible particles and protects downstream equipment, it does not address microbial contamination, dissolved minerals, or chemical impurities. If your water source is a private well, bacteria and viruses may still be present even after sediment removal. To ensure complete protection against biological contaminants, consider adding whole house UV water purification systems as the final barrier before water enters your home's distribution lines.

At AQUALIVIA, we stand behind the quality of our water treatment systems. Every product is built to last, and we are proud to offer strong warranty coverage for peace of mind. You deal with one company: us. AQUALIVIA is your warrantor, so there is no manufacturer to chase and no one else to negotiate with. One claim, one contact.
What's covered
Coverage is parts-only, for the original purchaser, and runs from the delivery date.
Tanks and core components:
- Mineral tanks: 10 years (up to 13" x 54"), 5 years for larger tanks
- Control valves: 5 years
- Brine tanks: 5 years
- Accessories and components: 1 year
By product:

Every system: 30-day defect-on-arrival guarantee
"System only" means the unit is covered, but the filters, membranes, cartridges, and lamps inside it are consumables.
What's not covered
- Consumables and wear items: filters, resins, membranes, UV lamps, cartridges, and salt (except a defect on arrival)
- Damage caused by misuse, freezing, flooding, storms, power surges, or improper installation
- Damage caused by a non-AQUALIVIA part, or by operating the system outside normal water conditions or its rated specification
- Installation, labor, plumbing, and property costs
Using a non-AQUALIVIA replacement filter or part does not by itself void your warranty. What is not covered is damage that such a part actually causes.
Reverse osmosis, please note
Under-sink RO systems require professional installation, and we strongly recommend a leak sensor with automatic shutoff in the cabinet. Please read the RO Installation Requirements before installing.
