Description

The Invisible First Line of Defense

Sediment moves constantly through plumbing systems, often unnoticed until damage appears. Even when water looks clear, particles as small as 5 microns pass through lower-rated filters, silently depositing inside valves, clogging aerators, and abrading the surfaces of water heaters, dishwashers, and washing machines. Over time, this fine sediment hardens into layers that restrict flow, reduce efficiency, and force premature replacement of equipment. For well water homes managing seasonal sediment surges and city water systems affected by aging infrastructure, maintaining fine sediment control is essential to protecting downstream treatment equipment. Without proper filtration at the first stage of water entry, sediment bypasses softeners, fouls carbon media, and damages reverse osmosis membranes long before their rated service life ends. The AQUAREX™ 20" Sediment Filter Replacement (5 Micron) exists to prevent that damage by capturing what other filters miss. Unlike coarser filters that allow smaller particles to pass through, this replacement cartridge provides the depth and surface area necessary to maintain consistent protection across daily household water use.

The Certified Solution

The AQUAREX™ 20" 5 Micron Replacement Filter is manufactured in the USA using graded density polypropylene media that meets NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 61, and 372 for structural integrity, lead-free compliance, and food-grade safety. Each cartridge is constructed with dimensional accuracy that ensures proper sealing and consistent flow distribution across the full 20-inch length. The 5-micron rating provides fine filtration capable of capturing sand, silt, rust particles, and other visible debris that standard 20-micron or 50-micron filters allow to pass. This level of filtration is particularly important for homes with fluctuating sediment concentrations that challenge equipment downstream. The graded density structure of the polypropylene media is designed to capture larger particles at the outer layers while finer sediment is trapped deeper within the filter matrix. This approach extends filter life by preventing premature surface clogging and distributing sediment load evenly across the entire depth of the cartridge. The 20-inch length provides greater surface area and higher dirt-holding capacity compared to shorter cartridges, making it suitable for homes with moderate to high sediment levels. Whether protecting a softener, carbon filter, or reverse osmosis system, this replacement filter serves as the first line of defense against abrasive particles that reduce system performance and increase maintenance costs. For city water homes managing chlorine and taste issues alongside sediment, explore our city water filtration bundles designed to deliver coordinated treatment at every tap.

Pure Water Living

Sediment removal is rarely noticeable until it fails. When a filter is functioning correctly, water flows clearly, pressure remains steady, and downstream equipment operates without interruption. That's the standard AQUAREX™ delivers. By replacing sediment filters at appropriate intervals, homeowners maintain consistent protection for plumbing, appliances, and specialty treatment systems. The result is cleaner fixtures, longer equipment life, and fewer service calls. Sediment filtration does not improve taste or remove dissolved contaminants, but it preserves the systems that do. That's why it is always the first stage in any properly designed water treatment system. Pure Water. Pure Trust.

Completing Your Water Strategy

While the AQUAREX™ 5 Micron sediment filter protects your plumbing and equipment from abrasive particles, sediment removal is only one part of a complete water treatment approach. Sediment filtration does not address hardness, taste, odor, or microbial contamination. To ensure comprehensive protection, consider pairing this replacement filter with systems designed to treat the full range of water quality challenges. For well water homes managing iron, sulfur, or bacterial concerns, explore our well water treatment systems. For city water homes focused on chlorine, taste, and mineral control, review our whole house water softener systems. Each system is designed to work together, delivering coordinated treatment that protects your home from the point of entry to every tap.

Very clean water in our new home

Moved into a new construction home in Raleigh NC last year. Added this filter as a precaution and glad we did. First cartridge change showed plenty of construction dust and particles. House filtering was not enough.

Installed it myself, first time DIYer

Not super experienced with plumbing but the installation was straightforward. Watched a couple videos, had it done in about 30 minutes. Water running perfect. If I can do it anyone can.

Still going strong after a year

Purchased this about 14 months ago and it has been running without any issues. Changed the cartridge three times and each time it was visibly loaded with filtered material. Clearly doing its job. Long-term reliability is what I needed and this delivered.

Great product for our hunting camp

We have a hunting cabin in rural Pennsylvania with a drilled well. Water quality varies season to season. This filter keeps us covered whenever we are up there. Easy to swap and reliable even with infrequent use.
